Reel In the Action: Your Guide to NYC’s Best Fishing Spots and Bites This June

The Big Apple is buzzing, and so are the waters! Whether you’re casting off from a pier, a boat, or a hidden shoreline spot, NYC’s waterways are ripe with opportunity this early summer.

What’s biting?
Striped bass are making a strong showing around the Rockaways, Coney Island, and off the coast of Staten Island. Early morning and late evening are prime times—these powerful fighters love the cooler, low-light hours. Try live eels or bunker strips for best results.

Fluke season is heating up, especially in the lower Harbor and around Sandy Hook. Bottom fishing with squid or fresh clam will put you in the zone for these tasty flatfish. They’re perfect for a fresh catch dinner!

Bluefish are schooling near Manhattan’s East River and Hudson River inlet spots, chomping on small baitfish. Use metal spoons or fast-moving plugs to trigger their aggressive strikes.

Tips for success:

Tides matter: Fish are most active during tidal changes, so check local tide charts before you go.

Gear up smartly: Medium-heavy rods with braided line work well for the variety you’ll encounter.

Be patient and observant—watch the water for signs of feeding activity like diving birds or splashing fish.

Hot spots:

Pier 17 at the Seaport

Brooklyn Bridge Park piers

Fort Tilden (for a bit more quiet and space)

The waters around Governors Island

Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just looking for a relaxing day by the water, NYC’s fishing scene delivers excitement and plenty of chances to reel in memorable catches.

Ready to drop a line? The city’s waters are waiting!

Got a few today but it was tough. Bunker guys are saying it’s been really bad with the bunker. I haven’t seen any giant schools. Just small and scattered. Feels like a much slower start than last year and smaller bass.
